Niacin… Would there be a reason why nicotinic acid would cause or exacerbate tinnitus (whirring)? How about niacinamide causing uncomfortable pressure where what feels to be behind the eyes? Is niacin estrogenic?

Nicotinic acid — inflammatory flushing reaction, possibly glycine depletion

Niacinamide — probably methyl depletion

Estrogenic — I don’t know

Hello! You wrote that "severe deficiencies in methylation could contribute to deficiencies of zinc, copper". Could you please give the cue how exactly undermethylation could lead to copper deficiency? I didn't find any information about this. I have an unexplained chronic copper deficiency (low ceruloplasmin and total copper, high free copper). Food and supplements didn't help. Zinc status is normal. Wilson's disease ruled out. There is also suspicion of undermethylation (all symptoms + high histamine & basophil count). How can this be related?

I believe — going from memory — that metallothionein is silenced with methylation, and metals relieve that suppression through their signaling, but you could conceivably have a severe methyl deficiency that would make it difficult to suppress it even in a low metal state.

Not directly, but oxidative stress hurts energy metabolism, and also activated CBS. And selenium deficiency causes oxidative stress

See here on energy metabolism and methylation:

Not sure what you mean about skin and hair. Can you be more specific?

Hey chrismaster John,

my son is 11 yrs old and he has few strand of gray(4-5). I did check his nutritional deficiency and found he has B12, B5 and selenium deficiency. for B vitamins I put him on mythyl b complex, but don't know how to correct his selenium deficiency. If I would start him on selenomethionine, then what dose and how frequently to give him? should I give him with food or without? he also has dandruff and skin issues.

100 mcg/d, doesn’t much matter with meal or without. Beginning of meal before food might be best.

On selenium see here:

And here:

On gray hair see also copper and everything listed in chrismasterjohnphd.com/cheatsheet for oxidative stress, and if first strategies don’t work expand to everything in the energy metabolism section.
