Thank you for sharing this. I'm working hard to help mainstream the use of cgm by more nutrition/dietetic professionals. Boy does it help. But these nuances come into play when the simple stuff doesn't work. My challenge is how to make this practical with my clients and other professionals I train. You've inspired me to re-visit the textbooks for yet another review of pathways because this analysis makes a lot of sense and I'd like to feel more fluent in it.
Do you trust lactate levels from labs like labcorp or quest? I have stopped measuring homocysteine because there is too much of a delay between drawing and running, and RBC homocysteine leaks out.
How much would you estimate typically leaks out? For example, a test that shows 7.5 - would the true value reasonably be something like a 7.0, or would you speculate that the true value is much lower?
Obviously your first answer is to measure lactate and/or ketones along with glucose, but beyond that, what can I possibly infer, or which complexes should I look into more, if essential amino acids or a product like Good Idea, which has a blend of amino acids, helps lower my post-prandial glucose?
Any idea if/how this would look different in the monogenic forms of diabetes, such as MODY2 where you're looking at a glucokinase impairment instead of the usual insulin resistance dance?
Hi Chris, thank you so much for this article. I started measuring my lactate (Accutrend Plus) after reading this and it making a lot of sense for my situation. My readings are chronically around the 2.0mmol/L when fasting and have been well over 4mmol/L after eating. This matches with my chronic fatigue and exercise intolerance. What should be my next steps and can I work with you again to help figure this out?
I talked with KetoMojo's CEO, Dorian Greenow, last year at the Biohacker Summit in Amsterdam. From what I remember, he mentioned they're looking into lactate and uric acid measuring strips. I can't find anything on their website about this yet but hopefully it's in the pipeline?
Having said that, he was great to talk to so maybe you reaching out to him somehow Chris could be worth it? You're quite a brand in the health space and I for one would love at-home pyruvate testing kits as much as anyone following you :)

Can you elaborate on how biotin puts stress on RCC-I?

I do trust them, at least until I see a reason not to.
Same here. I would be very curious to see whether these levels agree with the lactate levels you are getting at home with your device.

Very cool, thanks.
Know of any Copper supplements that are safe and get absorbed?
Chris usually points to MitoSynergy: https://mitosynergy.com/. Among other places, he mentions this in the Vitamins 101 for copper.
