Sooo helpful! I spend a lot of time reading labels. Occasionally I need some salty/crunchy plant food, dam*it ;-).

These sound really good but I'm eating keto these days.. Healthy Traditions has a similar product, cooked in coconut oil. https://healthytraditions.com/collections/tortilla-chips/products/authentic-mexican-corn-tortilla-chips

Cool that also looks like a good chip!

$48 per pound? Is that math correct?

I don't understand why per pound would be a calculation.

Because a full size 16 oz bag of organic chips at my local coop is typically $5 or $6 retail. One can order a case of those same twelve sixteen ounce bags from Amazon for $55 or so.

You are endorsing chips that cost an order of magnitude more per unit of measure. That doesn't strike you as completely exorbitant?

I can see paying a premium but that's absurd on its face. And it's not a good look for you either. You're better than that. At least I thought so until now.

It’s obviously not exorbitant because they sold out.

You have to consider they just started their operation to make something that isn’t sold in any health food store and is therefore not equatable on weight, without the opportunity to have scaled it.

They need to do higher volume and invest in their infrastructure before they can make at a lower price, as with any new product.

These are not comparable to “organic” chips. I would at least compare them to the other nixtamalized chips listed in the comments and consider the premium over those for the grass-fed beef tallow over the coconut oil.

Many of the folks here will spend money out of some level of desperation to regain their health, and I include myself in that group. And you stand to benefit from that at some level.

I’ve long supported your efforts to help us. I’ve never before found myself begrudging your endorsement to support yourself in service to this community.

That said, the pricing for this particular item strikes me as out of touch at best. Perhaps if this was an actual crowdfunding startup campaign, I could agree with you and thus likely feel differently. But it’s not. And for you to characterize it as such strikes me as slimy.

Anyway, rationalize it however you like; we’ll vehemently agree to disagree.

It is a startup.

They sold out of their product before the end of the first day despite not only having a high price but requiring a commitment to an entire box of bags.

No one in my audience lacks so much intelligence they would buy chips out of desperation to fix their health. No chips of any kind will solve any health problem unless it is related to psychology or low dopamine levels.

Rather, many people in my audience are obsessed with quality, including myself, and are willing to pay more for it.

Regardless, there is no such thing as an unfair price. There was literally a shortage at this price.

They are hiring kitchen staff with the money earned from the first batch.

Had they charged less, they’d have less money to hire kitchen staff and be less able to expand production.

Freely set prices are what lead to the useful allocation of resources.

Spare us the armchair economics lecture. Are you so desperate to spin your way out of the tendencious hole you're digging for yourself that that you're resorting to base insults?! That's fine. Keep proving my point about you being out of touch, at least where this topic is concerned.

I fixed it. I had copied the description from youtube without realizing the link would copy as a redirect from youtube. It did work, you just had to hit ok to leave. But I fixed it so it's a normal link now.
